Frequently Asked Questions

  • IAEA is a one-year career training program operated independently by BRC Audio Productions, without affiliation with any other educational institution.

  • The IAEA program consists of 13 courses over three terms, with lab time and activities functioning as course components.

IAEA is a single, complete training package offered by BRC Audio Productions. The current form of the program is the result of many years of crafting, each piece a vital contribution to the outcome.

  • IAEA is a 100% in-person program. Since so much of the audio engineering trade involves physical activity and equipment, we believe the best way to teach it is through hands-on and tangible training. Daily activities take place BRC Audio Productions and off-site scheduled events take place at designated locations.

  • All of our faculty have been active professionals of the audio/music industry in various ways for at least ten years, and have been active educators for years as well. Our backgrounds as educators range from graduate college pedagogical studies, to years of private instruction, to years of teaching the IAEA program itself.

  • Our goal is for you, immediately post-graduation, to be in a position to start a career that will allow you to be independent and pursue whatever audio/music endeavors you dream of.

We feel the best way for you to begin on this path is to seek employment rather than work solely for yourself, and our program is geared toward this outcome. We focus on training you to have marketable skills, relevant knowledge, hands-on experience with industry standard equipment and software, experience in professional scenarios, and the ability to learn and adapt quickly.

The audio industry is highly competitive and career advancement depends on competency, networking and professionalism. Employers for audio/visual jobs are generally less concerned with college degrees than with your skills, knowledge and body of work. For instance, you may be asked to set up the stage and PA as part of job interview for an event production company. Or perhaps you'll need to provide a portfolio of work you've done. We focus on thoroughly preparing you for these situations.

  • We take on students of various backgrounds, ranging from straight out of high school to having taken some higher education but deciding to go in a different direction, or even those looking for a change from a previous career.

Students at different points in life may be looking for different things in school. While IAEA does have a curriculum, set sequence of courses and defined outcome which applies to all students, our high teacher-to-student ratio allows us to spend all the time you need on an individual basis to help you achieve your unique goals.

  • The IAEA program is conducted over three terms: Spring (January-April), Summer (May-August), and Fall (September-December).

You may start on any of these terms, and you'll specify which on the enrollment agreement. Students starting in January will graduate in December, students starting in May will graduate in April, etc.

  • Our program is perfect for beginners as well as people with prior experience.

  • Other than a $11 book (and a pencil and notebook, of course), all materials and technology you'll need is on-site. All IAEA activities are intended to be done at the BRC premises.

  • All of these topics are addressed in the IAEA Program Catalog, which you can access once submitting our online contact form.
